Creating Space
a workshop on interpretation
at Creative Growth

For the “Creating Space” workshop at Creative Growth I wanted to stage an interior space using my personal belongings along with collaborative pieces of my sisters.
By placing objects upholstered in her designs and putting up a printed mural of her drawing the space seemed overwhelmed by her presence. I then filled the remainder of the space with my art and personal belongings. Through working around and with these physical representations of us it became a cathartic way of working through and visually separating our relationship.
Working with the idea that interior space can be a reflection of internal space, I inserted one blank picture frame next to our pieces. It was then the project of the artists to come into the space and make a piece of art to fill the frame. Working with them in terms of the color, feeling and design of the room they created a drawing of what they felt was missing from the space , and in a broader interpretation, what I am missing.
